By plane
The nearest airport to the house is Granada 30 minutes away.
Ryanair now have daily flights from both Liverpool and London (Stansted) to Granada and Monarch fly also from two London Airports daily.
This will be by far the best option as Casa Sanjose is only a short drive away and you are through Granada Airport in twenty minutes.
The other straightforward way is via Malaga. Casa Sanjose is roughly 90 minutes drive from Malaga The flight time from the South of England is approximately two hours. Obviously many charter companies fly into Malaga and we have found the new cheaper providers can offer good deals especially if booked early or out of season.
Through a lack of planning we have often had to fly into other airports and drive to Andalucia. At times it is much easier and cheaper to fly into Madrid and then to drive down. This obviously adds a few hours to the travel time. The airports we have used are:
Madrid
Four and a half hours drive but good international connections. We assume one could fly from Madrid to Granada.
Gibralter
Three hour drive and the uncertainty of the border crossing.
Murcia
Four hour drive but good for charter flights
Seville
Three hours drive. Not a great deal of International flights but growing. Nice drive through Andalucia.
Alicante
Approximately four and a half hours but with lots of international flights
By Car
By Ferry direct to Spain
There are car Ferry Services from Plymouth to Santander and Portsmouth to Bilbao in the north of Spain.
The Plymouth to Santander Ferry takes approximately 18 hours (from 2004)the one to Bilbao longer. We have always enjoyed this leasurely start to a holiday in Spain. From either Port it takes about nine hours to drive to Restabal. It's a bit of a slog but the roads are good (all motorway) and wonderfully quiet after driving around our small island. If there is time an overnight stop in a Parador is a delight.
Through France
Now this is a slog unless one makes it part of the holiday. I've driven back and forward through France on a few occasions as the sole driver and quite enjoyed it. From the Spanish border to Restabal is approximately nine hours behind the wheel. The time taken on the french leg depends on which port (or the Channel Tunnel) you use but you should allow a very long days drive or two leasurely days with a gastonimic stop or two.
